Professor Islam El-Nakib, PhD, PFHEA, FCILT, is Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the College of Business, Effat University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He brings more than 27 years of academic, executive, and industry experience in logistics, maritime transport, and supply chain management across the Middle East and North Africa. His work focuses on improving operational performance, strengthening supply chain resilience, advancing digital transformation, and supporting sustainable strategic growth.
Before joining Effat University, Professor El-Nakib held senior academic leadership positions at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, including Dean of the College of International Transport and Logistics and Deputy President. In these roles, he led academic programs, research initiatives, institutional development, and industry partnerships designed to connect higher education with the evolving needs of the international transport and logistics sectors.
He holds a PhD in Supply Chain Management from Liverpool John Moores University and a BSc in International Transport Management from Nottingham Trent University, both in the United Kingdom. His governance experience includes serving as Chairman of the Alexandria Container and Cargo Handling Company from September 2022 to December 2024, subsequently as a Board Member until October 2025, and as a Board Member of Egypt’s General Authority for Land, Dry Ports and Logistics Areas from April 2023 to August 2025. Through these appointments, he contributed to strategic initiatives supporting logistics infrastructure, port development, multimodal connectivity, and national competitiveness.
Professor El-Nakib is a Principal Fellow of Advance HE and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport UK, having been a CILT member since 1999. He is also a certified trainer with FIATA and IRU and serves as President of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals Egypt Roundtable. His professional recognition further includes election as a Foreign Member of the Luxembourg Academy of Sciences and Arts and membership of GULFHE under the Scholarly Faculty category.
His research, publications, and consultancy activities address supply chain resilience, maritime logistics, transport systems, logistics service providers, distribution networks, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, sustainability, recycling, and e-logistics. His core areas of expertise include supply chain transformation, logistics optimization, multimodal transport integration, risk mitigation, digital adoption, sustainable logistics, leadership development, and organizational reform.
Professor El-Nakib is committed to applying evidence-based and data-driven approaches to complex logistics challenges, building effective partnerships between academia and industry, and mentoring future leaders capable of developing resilient, innovative, and future-ready supply chains.
