13th Learning & Technology Conference: Call for Papers

Effat University's 13th annual Learning & Technology conference will be held on April 10 - 11, 2016. This year's theme: 3, 4, 5 Dimensions and Beyond: Immerse into the Learning Environment addresses multi-dimensional technology and its impact on teaching and learning.

Research Grant Application Deadline Extended
 
The deadline for applying for internal research grants has been extended to November 30th. Check out application forms and other submission requirements here.

Research & Video Competition for Undergraduates 
 
King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST) is holding its fifth Annual Undergraduate Research Competition in January 2016. The competition is open to undergraduate students with research projects in any of the following areas:
  • Geometric modeling and scientific visualization
  • Extreme computing
  • Uncertainty quantification 
  • Solid state lighting
  • Sensing
  • and more ...
Deadline for submitting abstracts is November 15th, 2015. Authors of up to 50 best abstracts will be invited to spend a week at KAUST.

Dr. Wadee Al-Halabi, Computer Science Department, published a paper titled "Solar-Thermal Powered Desalination: Its Significant Challenges and Potential" in the journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews (impact factor: 5.901)
 
Dr. Tareq Ladjal, General Education Department, published a paper titled "The Rule of the Theological Scholars in Building the Ideological Unity in the Maghreb" in the Academic Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies. 

Dr. Noraini Yusof, Architecture Department, published a paper titled "The environmental practice of resorts and tourist loyalty: the role of environmental knowledge, concern, and behaviour" in the journal of Anatolia : An International Journal of Tourism and Hospitality Research.

History and Future of Robotic Surgery Discussed at Virtual Reality Research Center

Prof. Richard Satava, Professor of Surgery at the University of Washington Medical Center, has recently visited Effat University and delivered a talk on the history and future of robotic surgery. With more than 20 years of military surgery experience, Dr. Satava explained to faculty and students the fundamentals of robotic surgery and presented various modern-day techniques used in clinical medicine and medical education.

Dr. Satava was invited by the Virtual Reality Research Center as part of a series of seminars that address related topics.

My article which I submitted to a peer reviewed journal was accepted. Does that count as a research output?
Yes. To find out if the journal is peer reviewed or not, check the “About” page of the journal as well as the guidelines for authors and its editorial board.

How do I judge the quality of a journal?
To evaluate the quality of a journal, check its acceptance rate and impact factor in the ISI Citation Index or Scopus.
Effat University Hosts University Outreach Tour of MIT Ibn Khaldun Fellowship for Saudi Women 
 
On Wednesday, October 21st, 2015, Effat University hosted the University Outreach Tour of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Ibn Khaldun Fellowship for Saudi Women. 

The competitive fellowship program, administered at MIT through the Center for Clean Water and Clean Energy, is open to Saudi female scientists and engineers and provides the opportunity to spend one year in full-time capacity at MIT conducting research with MIT faculty. 


The purpose of the tour was to attract potential candidates and promote the program among Saudi universities. Representatives from King Abdulaziz, Umm Al Qura, and Taif universities attended the event.
