Student Life Calender:

STUDENT AFFAIRS CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMS

Effat University mission is to create leaders, and leaders should not develop academically only, but they should also develop their personal and interpersonal skills and abilities, their professionalism, as well as social and global awareness. Each student will find herself in a journey of growth and enlightenment throughout the course of her study which eventually enables her to discover her potentials and improve them tremendously.

Effat University started implementation of this notion by introducing the system of value points and active participation in the world outside the classroom. After more than five years, the co-curricular program was recommended for development and revision to enhance its strengths and overcome its problems.

The revised co-curricular program, proposed below, adopts the philosophy of the academic curricula (compulsory courses and free electives). Hence, the co-curricular program is divided into mandatory core competencies that need to be covered by the student, and optional training opportunities that students take voluntarily. Both mandatory and optional activities are awarded value points that complement the student’s grades in every course she registers in during the semester. 5% of each course grade out of 100% is dedicated to the co-curricular development.

The new system helps in providing the students with essential core competencies for the development of leadership skills; as well as providing room for developing personal preferences and free selection. It also helps in measuring intended learning outcomes by the end of academic level.

Students failing to cover the required mandatory core competencies will get deductable marks at the end of their academic year. Students have to apply for a new passport when they move from one level to the next.

The college levels are:

College Level Number of Credits Co-Curricular mandatory hours
Foundation year Pre-college 16
Freshman 1 to 32 33
Sophomore 33 to 64 28
Junior 65 to 97 23
Senior I Above 98 to 130 18+ Project I
Senior II Above 130 Project  II

Students are required to gain 50, 40, or 34 value points every semester from mandatory and optional activities to get their 5% added in each course. Mandatory activities are DEDUCTABLE at the expiration of the passport.

Student Passports

How does the Passport System work?

The student is required to apply for her passport according to her level in college. She should log onto banner to check her earned credits to figure out her level according to the table above.

The Passport Application form is available on Blackboard. Students need to access the form, complete, print, sign, and submit to Student Affairs Office or Admissions Office to request the relevant passport.

Students by level are required to complete the following value points to get their 5%:
Sophomore: 50 Value Points.
Juniors: 40 Value Points
Seniors: 34 Value Points

The student should work on completing her passport carefully and should record the activities and training that she attends throughout so as to be able to receive her value points. Mandatory components should be recorded and planned for with care so that the student does not lose value points in case of failure to complete those components. (Please check Leadership Core Competencies below).
