Effat University Broadens its Network of Partners through Two Collaboration Agreements in Research
Effat University recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Visual Experience that entails mutual collaboration through research, training sessions in virtual reality, internship and employment opportunities, etc. 
Established in 2014 and supported by KAUST Innovation Fund, Visual Experience provides dynamic and innovative VR solutions in various fields including tourism and culture. 
The University also signed a cooperation framework agreement with Nestle Institute of Health Sciences which includes opportunities for research development and international research partnerships. 
As part of this agreement, a fruitful collaboration was made between the University and the Institute through a post-doc position offered to Dr. Kholoud Khateeb, Information Systems Department, and a research internship for Ms. Lamia Ghamry, a student at the Operations & Information Management Department
Located in Lausanne, Switzerland, "Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences does fundamental research for the understanding of health and disease and for developing science-based targeted nutritional solutions for the maintenance of health."
ECE Student's Paper Accepted at IEEE Conference
Effat University's Electrical & Computer Engineering student, Bayan Al-Oquibi, had recently had her paper accepted at the 27th Annual IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications held in Valencia, Spain.
Bayan was the first author of paper titled "'Energy Efficiency for Cloud-Radio Access Networks with Imperfect Channel State Information." The paper was also co-authored by Dr. Hayssam Dahrouj, Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, as well as Dr. Osama Amin, Dr. Tareq Al-Naffouri, and Dr. Slim Alouini from King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST). 
Upcoming Conferences
(October 31 - November 2, 2016)
Organized by KAUST's Solar Center, "the conference is cross-disciplinary on novel concepts and materials for photovoltaic, photochemical and photocatalytic energy conversion. The focus is on emerging research topics of current interest, such as: i.) perovskite solar cells, and specifically new materials, device concepts and routes to address the stability issues; ii.) quantum-dot (QD) and advanced silicon solar cells; iii.) novel high-efficiency donor and non-fullerene acceptor materials for organic PV; and iv.) photocatalysis, and specifically water splitting and carbon dioxide sequestration and photochemical energy conversion."
Saudi Arabia Smart Grid Conference on Smart Grids & Sustainable Energy

Held under the patronage of HE Eng. Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Energy, Industry & Mineral Resources, the SASG 2016 conference highlights advances and applications in the fields of Smart Grids, Green Information and Communication Technologies, Energy Aware Systems, etc.  
One More Patent for Effat University
Effat University was recently awarded an additional patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office. The patent registered under the name of Dr. Mohammed Asmatullah Khan, Biometric & Sensor Systems Lab, was granted for a system and method for identification of fingerprints.

Research at Effat
Dr. Abdulhamit Subasi, Information Systems Department, published a co-authored paper titled "Comparison of signal decomposition methods in classification of EEG signals for motor-imagery BCI system" in the journal of Biomedical Signal Processing and Control. 
Dr . Hayssam Dahrouj, Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, published a paper titled "Decentralized SINR Balancing in Cognitive Radio Networks" in IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology.

A group of Engineering faculty and a student published a paper titled "Efficient solution for finding Hamilton cycles in undirected graphs" in SpringerPlus. The co-authors are: Dr. Wadee Al-Halabi, Dr. Omar Kittaneh, Dr. Zain Balfaqih, Dr. Akila Sarirete, and the student: Amira Alharbi

Dr. Tabassum Rashid, Psychology Department, published a paper titled "Technology use, self-directed learning, student engagement and academic performance: Examining the interrelations" in the journal of Computer in Human Behavior.
Dr. Mervat Chuman, Operation & Information Management Department, published a paper titled "Commodity Representations and Cut-Set-Based Inequalities for Multicommodity Capacitated Fixed-Charge Network Design" in the journal of Transportation Science.
Dr. Noraini Yusof, Architecture Department, published a paper titled "Linking the environmental practice of construction firms and the environmental behaviour of practitioners in construction projects" in the Journal of Cleaner Production.
A series of research workshops will be held throughout the semester for both faculty and students. These workshops are designed to provide guidance on Effat University's research services as well as support in research-related issues.

Applications are Open to TAQADAM 'University Entrepreneurship Acceleration Programme

Sponsored by the Saudi British Bank (SABB) and managed by KAUST's Entrepreneurship, the University Entrepreneurship Acceleration Programme 'TAQADAM' is now accepting applications by 'individuals and teams who have a business idea, want to develop it, and understand its full potential application in the marketplace'.

'Accepted startup teams will receive up to $20,000 in grant funding and access to the co-working space at the KAUST Entrepreneurship Center.'
