 About the Program

Our English and Translation Program will provide you with expertise in the main theories, concepts and tools of translation and interpreting studies. It will introduce you to linguistics and literature in a context that will allow you to contribute to the development of our society in a global setting.

The Department of English and Translation aims to be a leading provider of internationally recognized education and a well-known centre for research in Translation, Literature, and Linguistics. We aspire to serve as agents of cultural understanding, innovative scholarship and civic responsibility.

The programs of English and Translation seek to provide high quality education in accordance with Effat University core values. We are committed to excellence in teaching and learning in a diverse and interdisciplinary environment. Our graduates will be specialists in their respective fields and will excel in creative and critical thinking, cross-cultural competencies, research, and civic responsibility.

 Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Degree requirements in English and Translation, students should be able to exhibit skills in the following areas:

Knowledge

    • Define terms related to exact areas of specialty and approaches to English/Arabic translation, interpreting, linguistics and English/American literature.
    • Recall some aspects of language and culture.
    • List major theories and scholars in the specialized areas of study.

Cognitive Skills

Discuss and explain various issues related to literary, linguistic or translated texts.
  • Practice, demonstrate and apply certain terms and theoretical concepts to specific texts.
  • Evaluate and examine texts or data in the specialized field and give a good critical analysis.
  • Write a well-researched essay in the field of specialization.

Interpersonal Skills and Responsibility

  • Demonstrate cultural awareness and understanding.
  • Show the ability to respect different work ethics and work collaboratively with fellow students, instructors, and internship supervisors and mentors.
  • Be accountable for personal actions and accept the outcomes of one’s choices.
