BOSTON October 2019 – Dr Haifa Reda Jamalallail, President of Effat University, Jeddah, was inducted as a member of the prestigious American Academy of Arts and Sciences, at a Solemn and Dignified Ceremony.

Founded in 1780, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences honors excellence and convenes leaders from every field of human endeavor to examine new ideas, address issues of importance to the nation and the world, and work together “to cultivate every art and science which may tend to advance the interest, honor, dignity, and happiness of a free, independent, and virtuous people."

The Academy's dual mission remains essentially the same 239 years later with honorees from increasingly diverse fields and with the work focused on the arts, democracy, education, global affairs, and science. The Academy is both an honorary society that recognizes and celebrates the excellence of its members and an independent research center convening leaders from across disciplines, professions, and perspectives to address significant challenges.

Academy members include those who discover and advance knowledge and those who apply knowledge to the problems of society. More than 13,500 members have been elected since 1780, including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin Alexander Hamilton, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, John F. Kennedy, Paul McCartney, to mention just a few.

This year, 190 new members were elected, including Dr Haifa Reda Jamalallail, President of Effat University, Jeddah. “With the election of these members, the Academy upholds the ideals of research and scholarship, creativity and imagination, intellectual exchange and civil discourse, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge in all its forms," said President Oxtoby.

Dr Haifa Reda Jamalallail said: “It was a moment of pride!"
