​​Effat University Wins the First Three Places in the Local GCC Robotics Challenge 2017

Three teams from Effat University won the three first places in the local round of GCC Robotics challenge 2017, held at Effat University in Jeddah on April 23, 2017.Three teams from Effat University won the three first places in the local round of GCC Robotics challenge 2017, held at Effat University in Jeddah on April 23, 2017.

The GCC Robotics Challenge is a yearly challenge for the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries. The Competition aims to encourage undergraduate students and young professionals across the GCC to build an innovative robust robot and compete in a pre-designed arena with space and time constraints utilizing their diverse academic and technical exposure.

In this challenge, sixteen teams from different universities across the kingdom participated with original robots, in which they took part in several challenges.

Dr. Haifa Jamal Al-Lail, President of Effat University, said: “Effat University has worked hard to prove that females in the kingdom can study Engineering and excel in it, and we are here today to show the potential of our great students.” She also added, “I think that this is only a small step of where they can go from here, and I’m very proud of them”.

Dr. Akila Sarirete, Dean of College of Engineering at Effat University, added; “This competition encourages the young graduates to implement their diverse academic and technical exposure and test their creativity, as this is the first time have teams from female high schools to participate in a special robot challenge and to enjoy watching the games.”

One of the winners & Effat University’s Electrical & Computer Engineering student expressed her excitement on winning,saying: "We are very excited and proud!”. She also added : “We spent hours working and this robot, and here we are; winners!" 

The winning team members are: Bayan Habib, Orjwan Sanyour, Raghdah Khezendar, Makarm Aljahdali, Rawabi Mofows, Wardah  Al-Aamri, Narges Al-Ruwaisi, Hadeel Almaghrabi, Renad Allagani, and Asayil Alshsikh.

The winning teams also participated in the final round held in Qatar on Saturday, 29th of April, 2017. ​
