Language is the cultural print of nations. Arabic is spoken in 22 countries by about 422 million people.  However, while the Arab population represents 6% of the world population, the presence of Arabic content on the internet is less than 1.2% (KACST Annual report, 2011). There are no statistics available in regard to the number of Arabic computer applications, but we predict that the number of these applications is even lower because software development is a limited activity in the Arab world.

This research center focuses on the following fields of research and applications:

  1. Arabic Corpus and dictionaries.
  2. Online support for Arabic, such as semantically oriented search engines and security of the Arabic online content.
  3. Software applications in Arabic ranging from business solutions to personal mobile applications.
  4. Multimedia applications in Arabic including games and animations.
  5. Machine Translation Systems including speech recognition and synthesis.
  6. Translation of scientific journals and books.
  7. Editing and digitization of manuscripts from the Arabic heritage.
