Students from Effat University are currently taking part in a space challenge in New York City organised by the US-based Space Prize Foundation.

Aboard the floating Intrepid Air and Space Museum docked at New York Harbour, students from the US, UK, Colombia and Saudi Arabia are being challenged to build their own cube satellites by the end of a three-day workshop. NASA astronauts, Charles Sam Gemar and Kathryn Thornton; Lucie Raskova,  an analogue astronaut; and Richard Garriott, a private astronaut, are on hand to provide coaching and mentoring to the budding astronomers, and to share their captivating stories and insights into the transformative effects of space exploration.

Dubbed the CubeSat Challenge, the space camp is designed to stimulate the interest of female students in STEM- Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics, and to showcase the exciting and diverse roles that contribute to space missions. Effat University students demonstrated their potential for successful careers in the space industry.

"I am really proud to be representing Effat University and my beloved country, Saudi Arabia, in this exciting and stimulating contest", said Reem AlNagshabandi, an Electrical and Computer Engineering student.
