February 5, 2020 – Effat University hosted the Global Liberal Arts Alliance Liaisons Meeting, Engaging Liberal Arts Globally, at its campus in Jeddah February 3 -5 Feb, 2020. The Global Liberal Arts Alliance is an international partnership of 30 colleges and universities in 18 countries.
It was formed ten years ago with the goal of advancing liberal arts education around the world and strengthening member institutions through sharing and relationship building. The Alliance is unique in that it provides programming for multiple campus constituencies: administrators, faculty, staff, and students. It is a very active organization, convening several meetings and workshops each year on multiple topics around the world.
The theme of the 2020 meeting was Liberal Arts in Practice. Through a series of panel presentations, Liaisons shared best-practices from their campuses on undergraduate research, faculty-led study away, community-engaged service learning, internships, first year experience, academic and career advising, and student mental health.
Dr. Haifa Reda Jamal Al-Lail, President of Effat University, “The scale and importance of international mobility for students and faculty has been rapidly growing in recent decades, in step with broader trends of globalization and the growth of higher education," commented Dr. Al-Lail. “As a leading and progressive academic institution for women, Effat University is aligned with these international trends and our membership in the Global Liberal Arts Alliance supports our efforts in this direction, and supports youth empowerment on the world stage."
