Aim of the Conference

The general aim of this interdisciplinary conference is to highlight the historic role played by translation in bridging the cultural and knowledge gap among nations, past and present. Scholars in the fields of language, literature, and translation are invited to explore, among other things, the various aspects of this intercultural dialogue, exchange of ideas, and the impact of translation on nation-building. 

Conference Keynote Speaker

Professor David Damrosch

Professor & Head of the Department of Comparative Literature at Harvard University; past chair of the American Association of Comparative Literature; a world renowned polyglot and scholar who lectured around the globe on world and comparative literature; books he authored include How to Read World Literature, The Buried Book: The Loss and Rediscovery of the Great Epic of Gilgamesh, What Is World Literature? Meetings of the Mind, We Scholars: Changing the Culture of the University, The Narrative Covenant: Transformations of Genre in the Growth of Biblical Literature. He also edited and co-edited the following volumes: Classics of World Literature (in Chinese), World Literature in Theory, Theories of World Literature (in Chinese), The Routledge Companion to World Literature, The Canonical Debate Today: Crossing Disciplinary and Cultural Boundaries, Teaching World Literature, The Princeton Sourcebook in Comparative Literature: From the European Enlightenment to the Global Present, The Longman Anthology of World Literature, The Longman Anthology of British Literature, The Longman Anthology of British Literature.
