Special Session 1: New Horizons in Linguistic Engineering: Embedding Linguistic Theories in AI

This session explores the integration of traditional and modern linguistic theories into Artificial Intelligence systems to improve language model performance, transparency, and cultural sensitivity. While computational linguistics has historically leaned on statistical approaches, emerging methods now incorporate syntax, semantics, morphology, and pragmatics into AI frameworks. Key topics include:

  • Embedding formal linguistic structures into deep learning models.
  • Neuro-symbolic AI for interpretability and symbolic reasoning.
  • Cross-linguistic and multilingual embeddings.
  • Ethical, explainable, and culturally-aware Natural Language Processing (NLP).
  • Applying insights from psycholinguistics to enhance cognitive alignment in AI.

This interdisciplinary session will feature thought leaders from linguistics and AI, and aims to foster collaboration that pushes the boundaries of linguistic engineering for more inclusive, explainable, and effective AI.

Special Session 6: Engineering AI Systems and Automating Software Engineering

This special session explores the strong bidirectional relationship between Software Engineering (SE) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). On one hand, software engineering provides the methodologies, architectures, and processes required to design, develop, and maintain reliable and trustworthy AI-enabled systems. On the other hand, AI introduces powerful techniques that can automate, optimize, and enhance multiple phases of the software development lifecycle.

The session aims to provide a platform for presenting theoretical advances, practical solutions, and industrial case studies that demonstrate how SE and AI complement and reinforce each other in building intelligent, scalable, and robust systems. Particular emphasis is placed on engineering challenges related to agentic AI systems, MLOps, data-centric AI, testing and verification, and responsible AI engineering.

  • Agentic AI systems and software engineering architectures
  • Engineering frameworks for autonomous and multi-agent systems
  • Integration of large language models (LLMs) into software systems
  • Software architectures and MLOps for AI/ML systems
  • AI-driven testing, verification, and quality assurance
  • Data-centric AI engineering and production ML operations
  • Trustworthy, explainable, and responsible AI engineering
