 About the Program


Psychology program has a long term academic partnership with the Department of Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University​​ ​​​of USA. The partnership involves developing and reviewing the curriculum in consultation with the colleagues from CMU, benchmarking our learning and teaching strategies with those of the prestigious institution, carry out collaborative research, and have continuous communication between the faculty and students of the two institutions. ​

The Curriculum

The Bachelor of Science degree program in Psychology with concentrations in clinical psychology and social psychology, requires students to have a strong background in basic sciences, mathematics, critical thinking skills, and command over the  English language, essential for optimal attainment of the academic goals and program learning outcomes. The curriculum offered by the Department of Psychology consists of several components that give students the opportunity to build a solid foundation in psychology, obtain field experience in the mental health, social and community services settings,  and gain insight into the professional and ethical standards required for the practice in various sub-fields of psychology.

At the early years of your academic journey at Bachelor of Science in Psychology, you will take General Education Program (GEP), attributed to the Liberal Arts – American style education. The (GEP) covers arts and humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and technological studies to help you gain insight into varied critical learning skills, investigate essential branches of knowledge, and develop appreciation of diversity and change across time, culture, and national boundaries. ​

Students will be required to work individually and in-groups to complete projects to develop collaboration skills, and will demonstrate oral and writing communication skills in various formats such as group discussion, debate, lectures, report writing and completing research papers.

Students concentrating in Clinical Psychology will be introduced to important topics in the clinical psychology field, such as psychopathology, psychological interventions, psychology of ageing, child clinical psychology, psychopharmacology, and ethics in research and practice. Students in the  Social Psychology area will be acquainted with subjects such as social factors and wellbeing, stress, coping and mental health, attitudes and persuasion, and research methods in social psychology. Students will obtain the necessary knowledge to understand the impact of theories and applications of clinical and social psychology in a global, social, and environmental context.​​

Skills Development

Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology at Effat University will provide students with world-class education, the needed skills, and a global outlook to scrutinize social and psychological issues pertinent to their own countries and transnationally, and help promote socio-psychological well-being among the community.  Learning Outcomes


  • Develop scientifically derived knowledge of a variety of topics and major psychological concepts, theories, applications, and current research findings underpinning the different fields of Psychology.
  • Recognize and differentiate between the different schools of thought and/or the different roles played by psychologists in a variety of settings.​


  • Use higher order cognitive and advanced technological skills to analyze, evaluate, and apply psychological and statistical concepts to better understand the causes, underlying mechanisms, and consequences of personal, interpersonal, and social problems.
  • Critically investigate, evaluate, synthesize, and apply theories, concepts, research methods, and research findings that underpin the different sub-fields of Psychology.


  • Collaborate effectively with individuals and groups, and take informed, innovative decisions to complete and manage complex projects and activities within reasonable timeframes. 
  • Demonstrate leadership via effective oral and writing communication skills in various formats (e.g., group discussion, debate, lecture, report writing, research paper), and interpret quantitative visual aids accurately, showing vigilance about misuse or misrepresentation of quantitative information.
  • Use interpersonal, intrapersonal, professional, and sound interpretive skills to make responsible and independent decisions desirable for the different fields in psychology.
  • Demonstrate rigorous values and ethics, and show respect for issues related to cultural sensitivity and individual differences in professional social context.​

​Students must successfully complete a total of 126 credit hours to be able to graduate from the Psychology Program, divided as follows:​

  • PSY Major Requirements​: 54 hours
  • Technical Requirements​: 24 hourse
  • Free Elective Required​: 6 hours
